Restaurant Le Pietre Vive
Specialties of traditional Tuscan cuisine

Typical Tuscan dishes
prepared from locally sourced, farm-to-table ingredients, to enjoy in serene and welcoming surroundings.
Come and experience the true taste of Tuscany at the restaurant Le Pietre Vive, nestled in the charming valley of the river Arbia, which Dante tells us ran red with blood in the year 1260 after the famous Battle of Montaperti, whose site is now home to this charming Tuscan farm house. This setting provides not only a peaceful air of timeless tranquillity just a few kilometres from the historical town of Siena but is an authentic culinary paradise, tucked as it is between the famous Chianti region and the great wine producing regions of Montalcino and Montepulciano, whose reds and Brunellos are well represented on a wine list which features some of the very best regional wines, including organically produced and natural wines.
The food showcases a similar philosophy, presenting in traditional dishes of the local Sienese culinary culture the very best local ingredients from great Florentine steaks from the local Chianina cattle and the delicious local Pecorino cheeses and speciality cured meats through the finest, freshest farm produce to local delicacies such as the saffron produced here on the farm which can be enjoyed in savory dishes like the fresh Tortelli with Ricotta and Montaperti saffron or in amazing homemade desserts such as Panna Cotta with Le Pietre Vive saffron.
And everything from the Monte Amiata Chestnut tagliatelle to truffles from the nearby woods is 100% Tuscan.

Farm to Table Ingredients
We have devoted special care and attention to the choice for our territory's very best products and to their preparation, in order to offer you traditional Sienese dishes of the highest quality, which are above all 100% Tuscan.

The best – ever in our life!
Seriously this is the best place we have ever eaten. Everything was beyond amazing. Although we tend to like restaurants with a lively atmosphere and this was quiet, it somehow had an excellent ambience. Must be the chef?? Who knows, who cares…you must eat here.

A highlight of our holiday
We had booked to stay at the magical Castello delle Quattro Torra, and were wondering where to eat – as walkers on the Via Francigena we didn’t have a car – when Nicola suggested we try le Pietre Vive. The Castello organised a taxi for us, and we arrived at the beautiful and peaceful farmhouse, golden in the evening sun. We started with antipasti: bruschetta with sticky glazed pear and cheese, grilled aubergine slices and peppers, a variety of excellent cured meats and little cheeseboards with eight different bite-sized pieces of cheese each. Next we had pici pasta (mine with a ragu of wild boar) and salad, beautifully presented followed by sliced local beef that melted in the mouth. Our wine had the Quattro Torra label and complemented the food well. This was one of the best meals of our trip, and it is well worth the journey to find this gem of a restaurant.

Great Fiorentina
We had the amazing Fiorentina steak at Le Pietre Vive and two weeks later we are still reminiscing about our visit. We were recommended to come here by a nearby B&B who called ahead to ensure so us. Le Pietre Vive stayed open for us and were very gracious. We’re were also recommended a great wine to pair with the Fiorentina- as it is a shame to not have together. We can’t speak highly enough of the wonderful restaurant and hope to visit again!

Best dinner experience of our entire journey!
For dinner. on the only night of our stay in the Monteaperti area, we dined at the Le Pietre Vive and couldn’t have been more pleased. The manner in which we were treated and the level of service we received made us feel very special. Nicola, our host, was wonderful and our server fantastic.
The food recommendations were particularly good. We originally ordered the zuchinni antipasta but since it was out of season we opted for the server recommended, porchini mushrooms. Couldn’t have been happier the zucchini was out of season as the mushrooms were superb and prepared like no others in our experience. The other recommended courses were excellent as were the wine options. We cannot find the words to express our level of pleasure and contentment. We can’t imagine receiving anything but the highest quality food and service from this establishment.
To top it off, since we had no vehicle of our own, an employee from the restaurant gave us a ride back to our accommodations. What an experience!! So much fun!
